Essay

You’ve done the research, you’ve outlined your topic and developed an outline for your essay. Now it’s time to sit down and write! But not just any old college essay: You want one that will stand out from the crowd. And I know how hard it can be to write about something that actually matters–but don’t worry! The following tips will help make sure that when you’re done with in 2 hour essays (and hopefully with this course), people will be reading all about how amazing you are!

Introduce yourself.

Introduce yourself. Tell us your name, age and hometown. Explain why you are writing this essay and how you are related to the topic.

Include these elements in your introduction:

  • Your name (e.g., Mary Smith)
  • Your age (e.g., 19 years old)
  • Where do you live? (e.g., Los Angeles, CA)

Explain what you want to do with your career.

The next step is to explain what you want to do with your career. You should also explain how your career goals will help you achieve other goals in life, such as:

  • Your personal goals (e.g., being an entrepreneur, earning enough money for a comfortable retirement).
  • Your family’s goals (e.g., raising children and providing for them financially).

Describe a situation that has shaped you.

In the process of writing your essay, you’ll need to describe a situation that has shaped you. The best way to do this is by using examples from your own life or those of people who have influenced you. For example:

  • Describe an event in which you faced an ethical dilemma and how it affected your decision-making process.
  • Write about a time when someone helped shape your thoughts on something important (e.g., politics).

Tell us about a person or personal experience you’ve had that relates to your topic.

You can also share a personal experience you’ve had that relates to your topic.

For example, if you’re writing about someone who has impacted your life, it might be helpful to tell us about their impact on you and how it shaped who you are today. Or maybe they taught you something new or helped change the course of your life in some way? Whatever the case may be, tell us what makes this person special and how they influenced your worldview.

Describe a time when someone helped you learn something new, and explain why it helped you learn what you did.

Most people are able to describe their experiences with an instructor or teacher who has made a big impact on their lives. You can also take this opportunity to discuss the importance of education in society, as well as how students can make a difference in their communities by getting involved in social activism projects.

What do we need? We need people who are willing to help make our world better by educating themselves about issues affecting them personally and globally; by speaking up against injustices; by being active participants in changing things for the better; but most importantly – we need people willing (and able) not just now but tomorrow too!

Give an example of a time when someone put their needs aside for yours, or put them ahead of their own needs to serve yours.

If you have a friend, family member or romantic partner who does something for you that they didn’t have to do and you were grateful, write about it. If someone has helped with your homework or taken time out of their busy schedule to help you with something, tell them how much it meant to you! This can be an easy way of getting started on an essay because we all want to feel appreciated by our friends and loved ones. You might even find that this is just what the professor wants from his/her students: showing gratitude for their efforts (and those of others).

Explain how you think we can make the world better, or why doing so is important to you.

You’re a thoughtful young man, and your essay will reflect that. You should spend most of your time talking about how we can make the world better, or why doing so is important to you. The best way to do this is by explaining how you think we can make the world better by improving education in particular.

For example: “I believe that education is the key to solving many problems facing our society today. If everyone had more knowledge about health care and science, then they would have less fear over their own mortality or potential illness.”

Here are some tips for writing a great essay:

  • Use the right words to make your essay interesting. A simple way to do this is by using a lot of specific examples (not just generalizations). For example, instead of saying something like “I love sports” or “I’m good at math,” say something like “I love soccer” or “I’ve never had trouble with math.” It will show that you actually know what you’re talking about and will help your reader get interested in what you have to say.
  • Show off your personality as much as possible. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our experience working with thousands of students over the years, it’s that every student has his or her own unique qualities—and these are often reflected through their writing style! So think about how YOU want people reading your work; then try incorporating those characteristics into each sentence/paragraph/section so readers can see them through different eyes than normal (i.e., more personal)!

Conclusion

That’s what we aim to do with our college essays! We believe that you can have an awesome essay without being formulaic or boring. We also want to use this opportunity to remind everyone about the process of writing and revising their essays—it’s a long, intricate process that takes time and patience. But don’t worry: if it feels overwhelming now, just remember that no one expects perfection in these short pieces of writing. If the idea of a “perfect” college essay feels too daunting right now, then try taking small steps towards your goal every day until someone sees how much progress you’re making!
