Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for your overall health and mood . Experts recommend that adults get seven to nine hours of sleep a night. You’ll be well-rested and have energy for the next day if you get enough sleep.
On the other hand, the development of memory, attention span, growth and repair of muscles and tissues, and the prevention of certain diseases are favored by a good night’s sleep.
Unfortunately, for some people falling asleep or staying asleep can be difficult. Up to 70% of the Western population say they don’t get the recommended amount of sleep for their age, and almost a third of adults sleep less than six hours a night.
There are different strategies to help you sleep better (sleep hygiene and sleeping pills are the most common), but in recent years, the use of CBD to sleep and improve sleep quality is becoming increasingly popular.
Talking about cannabis and cannabinoids
While the iconic narrow-leaved green plant is recognized by several names, it is officially designated Cannabis Sativa . Cannabis plants contain a variety of chemical compounds, including cannabinoids.
Of the more than 100 cannabinoids that seem to have the greatest impact on humans, researchers have focused on two: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD).
THC is the compound that gives cannabis its most well-known effects, such as “high” or “being stoned.” The term “marijuana” refers to parts of the Cannabis sativa plant that contain THC.
What is cannabidiol (CBD) and how does it work?
CBD, the other known cannabinoid, does not have the same psychoactive characteristics as THC and therefore does not have the same effects. Furthermore, CBD is known to have no side effects that could lead to addiction or misuse. This circumstance has made it gain great popularity, since on the other hand its use has been related to a variety of health advantages.
According to recent studies(20), CBD has a calming effect on the nervous system. Because CBD affects the serotonin generation and reuptake system, it can affect mood. The results vary from person to person and are influenced by the type of substance and the dose (usually CBD 20% or CBD 10%).
CBD is known not to produce THC-like effects even at high doses. It has also been found in some trials that CBD reduces the intoxicating effects of THC, and that patients who use CBD for a short period of time do not experience withdrawal symptoms.
What medical conditions is CBD effective for?

CBD
The efficacy of CBD in the treatment of epilepsy has been proven in several investigations. CBD may also be beneficial in the treatment of schizophrenia and drug use problems, according to other preliminary research.
Although there is not enough research to determine the usefulness of CBD in the treatment of certain health problems, preliminary research suggests that CBD may help with insomnia22, REM sleep behavior disorder23 and excessive daytime sleepiness disorder24.
Overall, this preliminary research supports the hypothesis that CBD is indicated to help people sleep better and feel less anxious.
What is the role of CBD in sleep disorders?
In recent years, the effects of CBD on sleep disorders are being actively investigated. Some people who use CBD for chronic pain say that it helps them sleep better. It is not yet clear whether these people sleep better due to pain relief or because CBD has a direct effect on their sleep.
Other exploratory studies on CBD and sleep problems have produced encouraging findings. However, not everyone benefits from CBD use in the same way, and different doses can have different effects.
CBD and anxiety
Anxiety, while not a sleep disorder in and of itself, can exacerbate poor sleep quality, inadequate sleep, and sleep disturbances . Early research suggests that CBD can be used to treat anxiety-related illnesses by easing activation of the nervous system.
Within a month, more than 80% of people who took CBD to treat anxiety reported reduced levels of anxiety, according to research. Sleep quality increased in more than 65 percent of people at first, but then fluctuated.

CBD and insomnia
Insomniacs have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep at night. This condition affects wakefulness, concentration, and mood during the day. People with insomnia may worry about not getting enough sleep, which can lead to increased restlessness at night.
Given the possible benefits of CBD in treating anxiety, it is suggested that CBD might also help with anxiety related to insomnia . New studies are underway that will provide more information on the impact of CBD on insomnia.
