An idea for a garden? It can be arranged comfortably and effectively at a really low cost. Just use your imagination. Beautiful garden? Yes, but lightning fast! Preferably right away! On the surface it seems impossible. But there are many ways that you don’t have to wait too long for the effect

Wooden boxes will be the best, but also made of cardboard. They will look nice if we paint them in a color that matches the surroundings.

After the house is finished, you would like the garden to please your eyes right away – that beautiful flowers bloom everywhere, dense grassland would turn green under your feet, and trees rustled above your head. It is difficult to understand that sometimes you have to wait for such an effect for years. An ordinary hedge takes several years to play its role, not to mention trees. For the first year, a freshly established garden does not resemble a green paradise in terms of drawings and visualizations that the designer charmed us with. How to survive this difficult time? Here are various ideas for reducing the wait.

How to arrange a garden

Setting up a garden is a great pleasure, but also a lot of expenses. So it happens that there is not enough cash for exclusive solutions. We then decide on cheaper options or arrange the garden in stages: from general to detail, piece by piece. We also often use temporary measures: we replace granite pavement with cheap gravel, and expensive teak furniture – with a log table and bench.

The idea for the garden – luxury for pennies

Let’s look for savings at the very beginning, tidying up the area after construction. Instead of paying for the removal of rubble or clay, we should form them into hills (a gentle slope by the terrace can successfully replace stairs). Let’s store sand, old bricks and concrete slabs (they will be useful for pavement construction), don’t throw away stones and boulders (it’s a great material for rockeries). And from the cut trunks or boughs, let’s knock the furniture off or cut it into pegs and slices (perfect for building garden surfaces, palisades, stair steps, and rebate edges). Hardened surfaces are often the most expensive garden elements, especially when they are stone – made of granite or sandstone. However, you can significantly reduce the cost by building them from cheap clay and gravel, wooden pegs, concrete slabs or openwork concrete cubes (ideal for hardening garage driveways). You can also choose picturesque earth, grass or bark surfaces. However, you have to take into account that they will require regular weeding and constant replenishment of cavities.

How to arrange a garden

How to fence the garden to ensure security and privacy at a low cost? The galvanized mesh stretched on metal posts (bought for pennies at the junkyard) will perform well in this role. In the vicinity of the street, we will be cozy then by wooden panels attached to the posts or by a hedge planted next to the net. Fences made of slightly more expensive panels made of welded galvanized rods (eg Betafence, Dirickx) are also aesthetic and durable. However, if we insist on a wooden fence, we should buy raw boards at the nearest sawmill and protect them ourselves against moisture.

How to arrange an allotment garden – water and light

If we dream of a gazebo in the garden, let’s build it ourselves – according to our own design. However, when it comes to buying, let’s opt for structures made of ready-made elements because they are much cheaper than those made to order). If we cannot do without a pond, we can arrange it in a laminate molding bought in a garden store at a low cost. You can also decide on an easy-to-do water pond sealed with foil. The sculpture next to it, which can also cost you pennies (see box), will add to its charm. Running an electrical installation in the garden is a considerable expense. So maybe it’s better to opt for solar lamps? They shine weaker than traditional ones, but they do not consume energy.

How to arrange a garden around the house – seedling and compost

When planning planting, let’s choose them to the conditions on the plot (so as to avoid costly “improving” the soil) and plant them in the right places (then they will not be wasted). We should also remember that compost is the cheapest fertilizer. So if we want to save, let’s set up a composter in the garden. Also, do not smoke leaves raking in the fall; stored in perforated plastic bags in spring, they can be used as bedding. It is best to buy trees or shrubs in nurseries. We will pay the least for specimens with the so-called bare root and small, young specimens. To avoid spending on seedlings, buy seeds instead (or collect them from flowers growing in our garden). Already in February, they can be sown at home in small pots or boxes, and after the last frosts, plant the seedlings into the ground.

The idea for the garden – masking vines

One of the famous pre-war professors of architecture said that when he failed a house, he covered it with a vine. It happens that in a newly established garden, not very beautiful walls of old buildings or fences are so conspicuous that they spoil all the joy of the new seat. The dream climbing rose and hydrangea will not improve the situation; planted only this spring, they will not cover anything with their noble veil, because they need time to grow. Therefore, it is worth using fast-growing vines that will instantly cover the wall you don’t like or the view you don’t want. Illusionist painting remains more impatient.

Pictures of interesting gardens. A quick effect of a coherent composition will be achieved by painting an uninteresting surface in a bright color, which will then be repeated in furniture and in flowerbeds.

Ready walls and partitions in the garden

If nothing grows on the plot or – as often happens – after building a house it resembles a lunar landscape, it is worth adopting a simple and inexpensive solution. It is enough to paint the ugly wall. In shops, you can also buy light trellises, pergolas and wooden partitions, which will create intimate offices and secret alleys in our garden. This method was already used by gardeners in the Baroque period, putting up light structures in places where lines and hedges would later be found. Wooden elements will build the spatial arrangement we need, properly selected, painted or – even better – specially designed ones, they can decorate a new garden. Finally, you can plant such structures with climbers, thanks to which the walls and walls will turn green.

A lawn for the impatient

Right now the lawn is actually an oxymoron, i.e. a contradiction because it is known that in order to be really beautiful, it must be mowed regularly for 300 years? However, we can afford an imitation of real English turf, i.e. a rolling lawn. It will look great when placed on a properly prepared, leveled, fertilized and irrigated substrate. Remember, however, that this is only a decoration for now: you can run on a freshly laid turf only after it has taken root, i.e. in 2-3 weeks at the earliest. An alternative to the lawn is, of course, natural turf, the kind we already have on the plot, only cleaned, watered and regularly cut from now on. The dandelions and daisies blooming in it will more than makeup for the fact that it will not be a real English lawn.

A rolled lawn is perfect for covering even complex surfaces. If we already have grass in the garden, it is worth leaving it, mowing and caring for it regularly

A nice tree in no time

There is no real garden without trees. But what to choose? For starters, fast-growing species such as willows, birches, dogwoods, or California firs and larches will be best, which will guarantee us an effect in the first ten years. Remember that some plants have beautiful flowers. These include fruit trees. Decorative cherry or apple tree will attract with their beauty in early spring, during flowering. In autumn, the vivid colors can bring their colorful fruit and discolored leaves to the garden. However, fast-growing species are quite short-lived. So let’s not give up planting slow-growing limes, oaks, maples or pine needles. We will not see how the years will pass and they will also show their qualities, flaunting against the background of already grown companions.

When designing tree plantings in our garden, let’s choose species that are characterized by rapid growth. Fruit trees blooming in spring are a good idea for an effect in a short time

A colored rug instead of bare earth

Nothing decorates a garden more than a classic English bed with clumps of flowering perennials and shrubs creating its “architecture”. Under the obvious condition that the plants are lush and overgrown. A freshly planted bed often looks sad with small and inconspicuous plants, or worse, it resembles a plowed field, because we have no idea how to design it yet. We know one thing: it has to be green, and there is no bare earth in nature – at least it rarely happens. The so-called ground cover plants. I mainly recommend fast-growing perennials and tuft grasses (such as thyme, spotted lily, fescue), although it is also worth using some low shrubs or even climbers – e.g. Periwinkle, Fortune’s Euonymus, ivy.

An idea for a cheap garden

Removing all the wild vegetation growing on the plot may seem like a great way to clean up the property to a newly minted garden owner. However, it must be clearly stated that this is not the best idea if we do not intend to immediately establish the entire garden from a to z. The ordinary brush can become temporary walls of our garden interiors. Until the new plants are of sufficient size, the old shrubs will be a backdrop for them. The sight of natural compositions of elderberry, tech, wild rose, and blackthorn will please our eyes much more than empty space. Before we start cutting, let’s think first about what to cut and what to leave for at least a year, so that the garden does not become empty

On the plot where we found a lot of old trees and shrubs, it is worth setting up colorful flower beds that will enliven the garden views before we decide to redesign the whole.

How to arrange a garden

In a newly established garden, there are fragments that we are already satisfied with, and others – still underdeveloped? If we want the latter to be less visible, let’s use the controls for the viewer’s eyesight. They can be placed in visible places of sculptures, pots with colorful shrubs or original bedding. They attract the eyes like a magnet. The same role is played by the lines that guide the eyesight obtained with the help of small architecture (stairs, retaining walls) and pavements (paths). To get a quick effect in the garden, let’s first focus on the dominants and their surroundings.

Big trees right away

By setting up a garden from scratch, we can decide to buy large trees and shrubs that will give an immediate effect. The technology of plant production is so developed today that you do not have to worry that they will get sick and grow poorly. They should be properly planted in previously prepared pits, filled with compost. It is best if a professional company does it. Such a “right now garden” is of course expensive, so be sure about the source from which you buy the plants. Planted trees and shrubs will be several or a dozen years old. They spent this time in the nursery, growing to the desired size. We can imagine that years ago we gave our future garden “to be nurtured”.

Large specimens planted in the ground or placed in containers on the square and on the terrace will make our garden more beautiful overnight.

Portable garden in pots

Planting plants in containers is a way to create a portable terrace composition that can change as the work in the garden progresses. Let’s start by highlighting the architectural qualities of the house. Let’s put the pots at the poles supporting the canopy over the porch, at the entrance and between the terrace windows. The next step is to arrange a vegetable garden on the terrace. Colorful beets, lettuces and copra, accompanied by spice herbs, will create a fashionable and original composition that will quickly enjoy not only the view but also the taste, giving you the satisfaction of having a real garden. As the changes take place, the containers can be moved and the species can be changed to more suitable for the whole.

Discount on call

Creating a beautifully blooming flowerbed – garden decoration – is the dream of all gardeners. It takes not only time but also experience. The best practice in creating floral compositions by planting species that develop rapidly. Among the perennial plants, let’s choose, for example, catnip, acropolis or geraniums. They won’t keep you waiting long and will look promising in the first season, and then just getting better. You can often buy overgrown perennials in stores. So let’s give yourself a little luxury and plant larger specimens in several places that will enrich the composition. The perfect complement to a young bed of perennial plants will be annuals, which will only need one season to show their full beauty.
